Last chance to book: Supporting suddenly bereaved children and young people seminar, Manchester

There's just two weeks to go until our first 'Supporting suddenly bereaved children and young people' seminar. This crucial event is being held in Manchester on 30 June, and offers a fantastic professional development and networking opportunity.

Sessions will include a case study from a Brake bereaved volunteer, a discussion of the support needs of children bereaved by suicide, and an overview of the support methods available for bereaved youngsters with special educational needs.

The event will include expert input from:
  • Professor Jacqueline Barnes, Birkbeck, University of London
  • Sue McDermott, Rainbows GB
  • Shirley Potts, Child Bereavement UK
We are also running a 'Supporting suddenly bereaved children and young people' seminar in London on 13 July 2016. Speakers at this event include Betsy de Thierry (Trauma Recovery Centre), Yunus Dudhwala (Barts Health NHS Trust) and Katrina Avery (Rainbows GB).

There are very limited places remaining for these events, and we would encourage any interested professionals to book now to avoid disappointment!

'Someone has died suddenly' book for children:

We have released an updated version of our vital ‘Someone has died suddenly’ children’s book, thanks to funding kindly provided by Co-op Funeralcare. This book is an ideal resource for anyone working with suddenly bereaved children, and is ideal for use in a school setting.

Readers of the book follow the colorfully illustrated adventures of Amy and Tom, who have been bereaved suddenly. Sections in the book cover an introduction to death, shock and sadness, and also provide an overview of the various emotions children may experience following a sudden death.

Included within the text is a workbook, which includes activities, resources and opportunities for children to discuss their feelings and memories of their loved one.
